Friars

The friars of Mt. Irenaeus come from the Catholic-Franciscan tradition, which has its roots with St. Francis of Assisi almost 800 years ago. We as Holy Name Province friars choose to go out and minister to the world and live among our sisters and brothers. You may find us at the Mountain living in some of the same buildings our guests are staying in, or you may find us at St. Bonaventure University’s campus going out among the students in the McGinley-Carney Center for Franciscan Ministry or the Hickey Dining Hall (or even catching one of the sports games in the Reilly Center or the athletics fields). You may even find us at a home in your area when we are hosted for a “Mountain in Your Home” evening of good food, prayer and fellowship!

In Memoriam

Dan Hurley, ofm

Our genial “old man of the Mountain” served from the beginning when he accepted Dan Riley’s invitation to be part of the founding team. “Hurls” retired from a long teaching career in June 1990; most of those years spent at St. Bonaventure University. Hurls passed away in March 2010.

Bob Struzynski, ofm

Bob joined us at the Mountain in 2005. Finding his way into fraternal life with us he brought a great desire to care for the poor, particularly those in prison. He also served as a theologian at St. Bonaventure University. Bob passed away in December 2013.
