Three Peaks

Following Fr. Dan’s passing, we began to formulate a simple vision, based on 40 years of experience and shared insights about our future. We’ve been describing this at “The Three Peaks of Mt. Irenaeus.” In summary, it is an outlook to focus our resources, our passions, and our gifts in these directions.

SERVICE TO STUDENTS
The first peak, being in service to St. Bonaventure University students, has been our core ministry for 40 years. It’s what the Mountain was founded on and where we will continue to spend the majority of our resources. Our partnership with the University provides the gift of access to young people seeking purpose in life, and an exploration of their faith. We feel a privileged calling to walk among them and to accompany them on their path.

SERVICE TO ADULTS
As people left St. Bonaventure after graduation, Fr. Dan recognized that many were struggling to find a faith experience that they enjoyed while being a student. This prompted Fr. Dan to begin our “on the road” and eventually “in the home” ministries. Meet us all where we were at, whether in school cafeterias or a friend’s living room. As technology evolved, Fr. Dan embraced podcasts, Instagram and video production. We want to continue this service to all adults, beyond the alumni community, through faith formation as part of our key ministry. Many have walked alongside Fr. Dan in the creation of these outreach ministries, and we are committed to growing this area across the country.

SERVICE TO FRIARS
We’ve identified the newly founded Franciscan Province of our Lady of Guadalupe as a population to serve as our third peak. It’s newly formed from six regional provinces being brought into a national entity. The Mountain and SBU friars are among them. As many of the ministries are involved in social services, and parish ministries, we offer a unique ministry of Franciscan contemplation in a setting that embraces opportunities for silence and solitude. St. Francis was committed to a life of both action and contemplation, and we want to support others in experiencing the latter.
